A Technological Evolution

After reflecting on the technological advancements that entered society during the height of the modernist movement, it was interesting for me to consider the impact that today's technology has had on our society. The distance our world has come with regards to technology is astounding and not something that we could have ever predicted over fifty years ago. While early 20th century engineers were focused on making automobiles affordable for more than just the very wealthy, today's designers are able to experiment with the concept of self-driving cars. While many of these advancements have undoubtedly improved our society in many ways - from the new medical treatments that have been made available to the overall convenience now present in our lives - advancement is not without drawbacks. As our country progresses, others are left in our wake because they lack the resources to keep up, furthering the divide between developed and developing countries. As the world becomes increasingly connected, we become detached from our own lives in favor of the way we present our lives through screens. There are so many things that have been easier by technology, but there are so many things that have been made more complicated as well. As we continue into the future, the impact of technology on our lives is definitely something that we need to consider. There is so much potential for further advancements to enhance society, but it remains important for us to remain cautious about how much power we allow it to take on.

  1. Katie, your blog post was very interesting! It’s true that technology is everywhere in our lives now, and people are constantly trying to improve it. I hadn’t really thought about how technology is contributing to the differences between developed and developing countries. We should keep this in mind that when developing new technology it may be beneficial but can also be causing issues in trying to create a fully united world!
